Kirsten Flipkens' Wimbledon-winning dreams came to a screeching halt when she was crushed by Marion Bartoli 6-1, 6-2 Thursday.
The Belgian-born Flipkens was ranked 262nd a year ago and upset No. 8
seed and champion Petra Kvitova Tuesday to advance to the semifinals.
It was the first time in three years that a semifinal round in a major
tennis tournament did not feature a former Grand Slam champion.
Better luck next year, Flipper. (That's her nickname on the WTA tour.)
